Cataclysm less than a week away, WoW Gold prices starting to rise?

Hey Everyone,

Seems the WoW Gold prices have started to rise. With the new Cataclysm expansion release less than a week away, it’s more than likely the reason.

Here’s the data (prices averaged across all sellers/servers/factions/beforediscounts):

WoW Gold [US] Prices: Current Average at 3.300$/1k Gold, with a high of 4.349$/1k (IGE) and a low of 2.487$/1k (GameUSD) - *Numbers as of Dec 1st – Charts will update daily*

WoW Gold [EU] Prices: Current Average at 3.300$/1k Gold, with a high of 4.499$/1k (IGE) and a low of 1.992$/1k (GameUSD)

Past expansions have led to spikes in prices due to higher demand. This is definitely expected for Cataclysm’s release as well. Could this be the beginning of an overall increase in prices? How high will prices go?

On another note, Happy Holidays to everyone and remember to pre-order Cataclysm from Blizzard’s online site or from a third party reseller to prepare for the release next Tuesday.

Cataclysm 2 weeks away: WoW Gold Prices Really Low

This week we are doing something a little different. Due to Cataclysm going live soon, we figured we would focus on WoW Gold prices this week.

Here’s the WoW Gold price trend graphs. Now keep in mind this is the trend of the average price, and does not necessarily say what the lowest price is, but just gives you a general idea of the whole trend of the market.

WoW Gold [US] Price

Currently sitting at an average of 3.2 across all servers and sellers, with a low of 2.438 and a high of 4.349.

Low Price: 2.438$/1000 gold

High Price: 4.349$/1000 gold

WoW Gold US Price Trend

—————-

WoW Gold [EU] Price

Currently sitting at an average of 3.3 across all servers and sellers, with an almost all time low of 1.249 and a high of 4.999.

Low Price: 1.249$/1000 gold

High Price: 4.999$/1000 gold

WoW Gold EU Price Trend Chart

What will happen to the prices when Cataclysm comes?

The demand of buyers of WoW Gold will definetly increase for the new expansion, with many players returning to and beginning the game, and longtime players  increasing their playtime. New items will also bring a need for gold from players.

In another sense, it is unsure what will happen to the quantity of wow gold for sale, will gold be easier or harder to obtain? In the end it all depends will the demand > supply or the supply > demand, the former raising the price and the latter lowering it.

*Chart images will keep updating daily after today.

New Feature – Average Price History Charts

A new feature has emerged on the MMOShift website. We now show average price history charts for each MMO currency. This shows daily data over the past month of all the prices for a currency averaged. In example, the World of Warcraft Gold US price history chart shows an average of all the WoW Gold suppliers for each day over the past month. The data is represented in price per 1,000 WoW Gold. EU and US price data are represented separately.

This information allows us at MMOShift, and gamers like yourself watch the price trend of your games currency. For example, this allowed us to notice that today (Oct 16th) there was a spike in WoW Gold US Prices. Here a capture of today’s WoW Gold chart:

wow gold price spike oct 16

A chart for each currency is shown on the results page when you compare prices for a specific game, and also a chart comparing all the MMO currency prices together is shown on the bottom of the home page.

You can expect to see more graphs showing more price information in the future, along with other new MMOShift features.

Amazon Possibly Leaks Cataclysm Release Date

cataclysm

As many who pre-ordered Cataclysm from Amazon already have noticed, there has been a possible leak of Cataclysm’s release date. Amazon sent out an email to all of the customers who previously pre-ordered the upcoming World of Warcraft expansion. The e-mail stated that the expansion would be delivered 6 days after a Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010 release date, two days before Thanksgiving.

Blizzard has not yet officially announced a release date, other than Q4 2010. For past WoW expansions they have announced the release dates about 2 months in advance. This would mean if the November 23rd release date is correct, we will likely be seeing an official announcement in the next week or so.

Previous expansion exact release date announcement timelines:

  • Burning Crusade – Release Date January 16, 2007
Officially Announced on November 9th, 2006 (2 Months, 7 Days apart)
  • Wrath of the Lich King – Release Date November 13, 2008                                       Officially Announced on September 15th, 2008 (1 month, 29 days apart)

Cataclysm comes in a normal CD-Key only package or a Collectors edition package. The collectors edition package comes with some extra WoW related materials, but will run you for about $80 bucks, while the simple CDKey package goes for under $40.

WoW – Cataclysm Will End Mac PowerPC Support

cataclysm

A Blizzard staff member Jessicalu posted on the official World of Warcraft forums last week, warning that Cataclysm will end the WoW support for PowerPC Processor Macs. These processors were in the generation of Mac computers before they changed to Intel processors.

Apple has not produced computers that use the PowerPC processor since pre-2005. So, if you are a mac user and your computer was made after 2005, you don’t have anything to worry about. Here is the actual post on the official wow forums:

“A little forewarning to those of you that play World of Warcraft on these systems;

Shortly before the release of Cataclysm, a patch will be released in which PowerPC processor based Macs will no longer be supported.

This update indicates the removal of PowerPC support from World of Warcraft.

Attempting to run the game after the update will bring up a message stating the hardware is no longer supported, and the game will not run.”

Aion Free Server Transfers Start Up Again

aion logo

As previously announced, Aion Free Server Transfers will be opening up again today, August 26th. You will be allowed to apply for a Free Transfer starting at 1:00 pm PST (9:00 pm GMT). The actual transfers will begin happening on the 28th. There is a limit on how many transfers will happen per week, but the exact number was not included in the official announcement.

Also, keep in mind that these transfers will only happen if the server you are transferring to is lacking in your faction’s  population. The reason the transfers are free, is because they will be used to better balance the factions. If you are planning to transfer to a server that is overpopulated by your faction (Asmodian or Elyos), don’t be expecting a free transfer to that server any time soon. On the other hand, if you are hoping to transfer to a server that’s population is lacking your faction, it will likely happen quickly.

Hopefully this will lead to the end of waiting for long ques, we’ll see how it plays out.

And to any wondering, when you transfer your Character to a new server, all your equipment, kinah,  and items come with you.
